Finally, An Update

Dear Friends,
We apologize for the delayed update. Many have been asking how Liam is doing, and we so appreciate your concern.
In our last blog post, we shared that we were about to have a big care meeting with Liam’s medical team. Unfortunately, that meeting did not go as we expected, and we were left with more questions than answers. Our oncologist and our infectious disease specialist were both concerned with the fact that Liam’s fungal infection has not improved more by now, and they were also in total disagreement with how to proceed.
After this meeting, we requested a second opinion from Seattle Children’s Hospital, and they came up with a pretty good long-term treatment plan! We have, therefore, made the decision to leave Mary Bridge and move all of Liam’s care up to Seattle. This was not an easy decision for us. The drive up to Seattle can be very long with traffic, and it will complicate our lives a little bit more. We also love so many people from our team at Mary Bridge; it feels really hard to leave them when they’ve been with us during our most intense and difficult moments. We are grieving the loss of their presence in our lives, but also looking forward to getting the best care we possibly can for our boy.
Liam is doing really well right now and getting a bit stronger every day, but he still has a long road ahead to full recovery. He is getting weekly physical therapy. We are spending every minute we possibly can outdoors and in the sunshine. He’s learning to do little boy things again. And he is very happy most of the time.
Liam is still on oral chemo every day with monthly infusions. Sometimes his blood counts get weird and low so his immune system is still compromised. And we hope that the fungal infection will start to really heal with Seattle’s new plan.
Please continue to pray for Liam. The treatment plan for his fungal infection is not without risk. There could potentially be long-term neurological side effects, which would be devastating. Please pray that Liam’s new team would have wisdom as they monitor him. Pray that his fungal infection would be healed even before our first appointment with Seattle in June!
Thank you for prayers
