For the last couple of days, Liam has been spiking fevers. The cause remains unknown. The doctors are saying that the fevers do concern them, but it’s not something uncommon for leukemia patients. It’s possible that the fevers could be from another infection or even from the medications he is on. Or it could just be from having leukemia.
It’s a guessing game, but they are doing everything they can to catch any possible infections. He’s having blood drawn several times a day. They have started him on multiple antibiotics. Tonight they did a chest x-ray. Tomorrow, they may do a CT scan.
Unfortunately, more medicine means a higher chance of toxicity in Liam's body. The infectious disease doctor told us tonight that they are constantly working with his meds and adjusting them as needed to hopefully combat an infection without destroying Liam’s kidneys. And they have to do this while simultaneously poisoning his body with chemotherapy.
Please pray for Liam as he is generally not feeling well. He is very tired and pale. It’s been difficult to get him out of bed to play or walk around. His blood levels are low again as well, so he’ll be getting another blood transfusion soon.
Pray for peace for us as parents. It’s a bit overwhelming to watch all of these medications going into our son and seeing him so sick. But we know that it must be done, and we are thankful to have such an awesome medical team taking care of him.
