Today was full of blessings. First, Liam woke up fever-free! He had a hearty appetite, and wanted to play after several days of being feverish and bedridden. He got another visit from his best friend, and while they were playing, a couple of Rainier’s Baseball players joined us! It was such a sweet moment for Liam in the midst of everything he’s endured with leukemia. The players Trevor Kelly and Jake Slaughter were so kind to visit him and play with him.

During our morning check-in, our medical team informed us that we might be able to go home next week! We were shocked. Just a couple of days ago, we were in tears over the seemingly endless unexplainable fevers. It’s amazing how quickly things can turn around! Today, Liam’s ANC counts were up to 180! For reference, he has been at zero most of his time at the hospital, and they have only just begun to rise. (See Ben’s previous for more information about the blood counts.) Liam needs to have an ANC count of 200-500 to leave the hospital. So as long as those numbers continue to climb, and he doesn’t get any more fevers, we could go home as early as Monday.

The doctors reiterated that anything could happen before then, and not to get our hopes up too much. But we can’t help feeling relieved and joyful. Any good news is music to our ears and a reason to be thankful. And as much as we want to bring our boy home next week, we have been learning to live one day at a time with our hands open to the Lord. We know He has us.

So today, we are praising God for good blood counts, sweet friends, and compassionate baseball players. Tomorrow we will begin preparing for Liam’s return home, whenever that may be.

Please continue to pray for Liam’s healing, that his blood counts would improve, that he would remain fever-free, and that he would be able to come home soon
