Dear friends,
We just wanted to send out a quick update. Liam has been doing well. He just completed two weeks of the really intense chemotherapy. Overall, he tolerated it pretty well. Unfortunately, the past couple of days, the nausea really started to set in and he’s been vomiting a lot. He is currently on four different anti-nausea medications, and they are keeping him hydrated with IV fluids. Please pray that the nausea would end and that he would be able to get enough calories through his feeding tube.
Today, he became neutropenic (no immune system). His blood counts are still dropping, and will continue to over the next day or two until his white blood cell counts get to zero. They usually remain very low for about two weeks, and that is the time when he has always gotten bad infections. We have to be hospitalized until his blood counts recover, and while we’re here, he will receive multiple blood transfusions and preventative antibiotics. We will wait and see what his body will do. Please pray with us that he would be spared from infections this time!
Once Liam's blood counts return, he will enter the maintenance phase, which is the final phase of leukemia treatment. Please pray that his blood counts recover quickly!
We will continue to pray for Liam and for your family. I will specifically be praying for his nausea to end, for no new infections to take hold, and for this leukemia treatment to end with complete healing for Liam.
I am praying extra hard for that little super guy! Please let time fly by and have him over this - he needs to get back to playing!
My family, our church family and my co workers continue to pray for Liam and the whole Spector family.
