Waiting for News

As I was driving to the hospital this morning, I was nervously awaiting news as to whether or not Liam going home today. Emily was with Liam as he was in the middle of his bone marrow biopsy. The plan was for him to come out of anesthesia, get in the car, and head home. We were simply waiting for doctor to give us the greenlight.
In addition to waiting for news, I was listening to Psalm 3 on my drive. While the Psalm speaks into a different situation than my own, David’s confidence in God rekindled a waining confidence in my own heart.
In the Psalm, David finds himself in the wake of his moral failures. As verses 1-2 recount, others looked at the mess David had created and concluded that God had abandoned him. And yet, David understood something which they didn’t. David knew the tenacious and unchanging nature of God’s gracious promises to his people (see v.8!). So, against what would seem to be true to others, and despite what he may deserve, David boldly believed the opposite:
“But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head...I lay down and slept;I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.” (Ps. 3:3, 5)
This encouraged me to trust that whatever news came, the Lord is true to his word and true to his people. If Liam and I had spend yet another night at the hospital, the Lord could and would sustain us. I’d soon find out how helpful this reminder would be.
After Liam woke up from his procedure, he had the chills and spiked a fever. Though the fever dissipated after some Tylenol, he is back on antibiotics and the doctor said we’re going to be at the hospital at least another two days (possibly longer). While we’re thankful for the medical team and their conservative and cautious approach, we are nevertheless disappointed to not be home tonight.
In all of this, we’re thankful for the Lord who lifts the heads of those who trust in him.
How to Pray
Pray for healing
Pray for endurance as we wait to go home
Pray for wisdom for medical team
Pray God would grow our faith in this time
